2009 YEAR IN REVIEW.

Posted by arthurstrange on December 24, 2009

Has it been a year already?

Aside from the fact that I’m lazy, there were many reasons why I was out of the public view for the last year and did not post a single entry to my blog in 2009.

I will spend the next few moments giving the past the respect it deserves and giving my rundown of 2009 and everything that has happened since my last post in November 2008.

2008 was an aggravating year with the country  on the crossroads spiritually, politically, and economically.  The elections were fierce and at the end history was made and it seemed that change and hope was to come.  For me change came first.

On December 30th 2008, my personal life was put on standstill as my mother suddenly fell ill and went to the hospital for emergency surgery.  She did not survive recovery and passed away on January 10th, 2009.  God rest her soul.

My father had been diagnosed with cancer earlier in 2008 and was going through chemotherapy treatment.  Shortly after hearing of my mothers passing his condition worsened and he passed away exactly one month later on February 10th 2009.

They both had been separated for years.  His illness and prognosis stressed my mother.  She still cared after all these years.  She stressed over it to the point of sickness and death. She still cared.  I took it upon myself to tell my dad personally about what happened to mom.  The news broke him.  He still cared.  He instantly knew that his illness stressed her and he was not the kindest person when she would call and ask him if he was taking his meds, etc.  This broke him.  He still loved her.  He still cared.

He died.

His funeral was on Valentines Day 2009.  He was with my mother again.  God rest his soul.

This was a painful lesson on how we as humans allow pain and pride to leave things unresolved.  unreconciled.  It hurt me to bare witness to this.  Me and my family are no different than any other family and so I thought this must happen alot.  That hurts even more.

2009 was also the first year “officially” on my own in the world of bookkeeping and accounting.

For anyone who didn’t know, I worked for a marvelous man the last few years who taught me a lot about humility and life.  Dan Murphy was a CPA who operated his own practice from his home and I was his bookkeeper and assistant.  He had cancer and as his condition deepened over the last 2 years so did my professional and personal friendship with him.

He passed away on June 13th, 2008.   He left me his contact list of clients and his best wishes for me to pursue working for them.  The fact that there was a ton of unfinished work helped me create working relationships with most of his former clients and on September 19th, 2008  I created Murphy, Pena and Fish to serve these former clients of Dan.

I will be eternally grateful to you for what you did for me.Thank you Dan.

Dan Murphy and Co.  was a small company that consisted of me, Dan and some fish we had to break the dullness of office life counting numbers.  This was the inspiration behind me choosing the name Murphy, Pena and Fish as the company name in honor of my late friend and benefactor.

more to come…. this article is incomplete.

Sorry Florida and Michigan

Posted by arthurstrange on March 12, 2008

Look, I don’t know who to blame for the votes not being counted in these two states.  Maybe the state party officials are to blame for breaking the rules, or maybe its the DNC’s fault for enforcing the rules, but how and the hell are two states going to go from being totally penalized (which may be unfair to some) to being the 2 states that may decide the Democratic nominee for presidency, which is completely unfair and totally unacceptable to all the states involved in the process.

and why are we so afraid to say this?  Instead the word out is “we are working of ways to find a solution  to this problem.”

Thats avoiding the issue.

They were disqualified, if they are reinstated and have new elections (which seems like the only acceptable option other than total disqualification) they will have the most precedence in this nomination. This is exactly the thing they (the state officials) were trying to achieve, and the exact thing they were disqualified for.  How is this allowed?

No Way! No way in hell….

Knife Fight

Posted by arthurstrange on March 7, 2008

The Clintons and their negative media push are trying to create a “new reality”, and this is where it is strategically important for everyone within the campaign from the bottom-up to remain focused and flawless, while all supporters react like a mob at every unfair accusation.  Shaking the stage so-to-speak in order to disrupt the illusion they are creating, it is important for all Obama supporters to be vigilant in their politics and show a “new kind of fervor” for their candidate within the party.  The reason this “new kind of fervor” is important is because this fight is from within the party, and the Clintons representing the “old guard” have a well established and well oiled political machine within the Democatic Party that can match Obamas wit, and clarity with potent politcal sleeze and tactics that produces the situations we are currently in.

The Clintons are still in this election despite all the projections showing her still behind come convention time in total delegates and popular vote, yet she is still unwilling to submit.  Why?

Because Hillary Clinton feels she doesn’t need to win in total delegates or total popular vote to win the nomination.  The Clintons are confident that if they can at least narrow Obamas margin of victory to a small percentage, enough to make it politically acceptable for them and the superdelegates that originally supported them to claim a so-called draw.  This will persuade other superdelegates, many of whom representing the “old guard” that this “come back” of hers is due to the Clinton campaigns “America’s 2nd look theory”, making the argument that its the superdelates political responsibility to do what ”they” think is best for the party, and declare her the winner.  It sounds like an audacious and impossible move, but it is a very real possibility and all it takes is a little political trickery and a media so willing to consume anything and everything about the event, with pundits from every side of the aisle confusing TVland with opinion and spin, that the real point of it all will be missed, everything else will be swept under the rug, and all will be lost; again.  Barack Obamas campaign represents a shakeup within the Democratic Party and many of these superdelegate would find no comfort in this “change” when deciding which way to vote in the event the nomination goes to the superdelegates voting to settle a so-called draw.

The Democratic Party is in a fight for its soul and this fight has been brewing for many years, and its sides could be best described as the “old guard” vs. the “new guard.”  A new era of politics has dawned upon us and its orgins are from varied sources that all somehow converged into this moment in time we find ourselves in.  A new breed of politicians who represent younger generations of Americans are taking the lead in voicing the peoples views, while people who were used to supporting 3rd party candidates are finally coming home and finding it more logical to rework a party than to try to create new ones.  Corrupt politicans who would usually have had the comfort of low public participation in the past allowing them to sit around and do nothing are now finding that they have to answer for their ineffectiveness in the past.  All these things combined with the events of the last 8 years have made it the most potent political year in my lifetime.  The shift has been gradual, and other Democrats have contributed to this new era from Al Gore and his work after losing the presidency although winning the popular vote, to Howard Dean and his internet campaign that was the first of its kind.  If played correctly, this political round of chess could achieve great and sweeping changes for our country but If we rely solely on good will and staying on message while others are playing hardball politics, we will lose.
